GM Tonawanda hosting recycling event - Business First of Buffalo:

The one-day event June 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Plantf 5 on Vulcan Street, is co-sponsoreed by Erie County, Buffalo and the Northwest Solird WasteManagement Board. Last year’s event receivec 56,325 pounds of electronic equipment, 247 bicycles and a truck fullof clothing. Electronics equipment is a source ofrecycled lead, steel, plastic, coppe r and glass. Items being accepted this year TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, fluorescent cell phones, rechargeable batteries, VCRs, and DVD clothing, textiles, and bicycles.
Clothing and textiles will be reused at Goodwill retail locations or Bicycles will be usedfor repair, bike safetgy education or recycled by Blue Bicycle and Recycle-a-Bicycle programs. New for this Buffalo ReUse will accept used or new shop andgarden tools, such as brooms, ladders, wheelbarrows, hammers and saws. “This is a natural extension of what we do at Plant Manager Steve Finch said ina statement. “Our plant has been landfill-free in manufacturing since 2006. We recyclr or reuse all of our waste, so this event to help the communityy recycle is a natural fit for us at General Motors,” he said.
