The Bethesda-based developer's 26-acre office park in the Shady Grovd Life Sciences Center is currently approvedrfor 669,538 square feet of density and the campuds currently contains half of that, or 350,000 squarw feet. At a May 28 work the Montgomery County Planning Board decided to recommend in its drafft Gaithersburg West Master Plan that the property be developed with up to twicwe asmuch density, or contaij up to 1.34 million squar feet of office, retaio and residential space. The southwest corner of the land currently includesa 272,000-square-foot, three-building complex that houses softwarre and pharmaceutical tenants.
The north side of the property contains the Metropolitabn RegionalInformational Services' 72,000-square-foot headquarters. Last week, the board also recommendecd that Danac's Corridor Cities Transitway stop be located at or near itsnortheastern corner, near the intersection of Diamondback Drives and Decoverly Drive. That is good news for since the board had left out the stop inearlied drafts. The transit stop near the corned may be developed whether the state retainxs the current road alignment or adoptsthe county'x locally preferred alternative.
The board also pickeed that location because the northeastern corner is considered to be convenieng for pedestrians from the Decoverlyresidential communities. "Wd have a long way to go, but we are encourage d by theplanning board's recommendations," said Timothhy Dugan, a Danac attorney. Severap more work sessions are schedulesd over the next two and in July the planning board will send its draff master plan to the county executive who will have 60 days to reviews and comment before it is sent to the countyu councilfor deliberations.
